Our wellness is so dependent on our awareness. To the extent that we are aware that we need to pay attention to our thoughts, our emotions, our bodily sensations, we are able to make the adjustments and changes needed to stay well.
When we fail to be aware, we can sink into the darker side of ourselves and live there without even really knowing it This can be seen by others who care for us, but not by ourselves if we are not staying aware and alert.
To be aware is to pay attention. To pay attention is to see ourselves truly, to be able to assess and react to what is going on in our thinking, in our emotions, in our bodies. This paying attention is to be mindful and proactive about being and staying healthy, mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Wellness in all of these areas is a spectrum, and we will often find ourselves at different places on the spectrum at different times. Sometimes, I am struggling and need to reach out for help, but instead, I self-medicate or self deny. Sometimes I am in a stronger place and able to help someone else.
We are rarely staying in one space, there is so much that impacts our being that we cannot always keep ourselves from needing to reach out for help. When this happens, do not allow yourself to sink into self-criticism or self-doubt. You are not a perfect human.
At times we all need help, mental health, emotional wholeness, physical wellbeing, are all areas that we will at times, need support. My ask today if you are reading this short message, is to stay aware of how you are doing and stop trying to be superhuman, reach out when you need help.
Warmly,
Tony
